Fring have just released an application for the N800 & N810.
Download from http://www.fring.com/download/linux/
UPDATE 21/07/08
For people having problems installing Fring, you have 2 options:
Option1:
Run this in xterm:
ln -s /usr/lib/libhildonmm-1.0.so.2 /usr/lib/libhildonmm-1.0.so.1
If you are getting a permission denied error, install this first:
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/rootsh/
then, run xterm again, and type:
sudo gainroot
then this again (if you have ran this before you can just tap up the nav key twice to access the command line history):
ln -s /usr/lib/libhildonmm-1.0.so.2 /usr/lib/libhildonmm-1.0.so.1
then try running fring again.
Option 2:
For people who are not very familiar with linux command line and have a problem with running fring after installation on N800/N810 (Maemo OS diablo version)!
1. Uninstall fring.
2. Open the catalogs window in Application manager. Disable “maemo Extras” catalog which have empty Distribution field in it’s properties.
3. Refresh catalogs.
4. Install fring again.
This problem shouldn’t happens on N800/N810 (Maemo OS chinook version)
It doesn’t appear to run on the N800. At least it won’t on mine.
I installed it fine on my N800 Diablo, but it wouldn’t let me login, that is until I restarted the N800 and its working great now.
I know @arjun over in Jaiku.com has had problems installing it aswell. He’s got in installed, but when he tries to run it nothing happens?
Yeah, that’s what happened with me. It installed just fine, but it won’t run. Even after a reboot.
same problem. I installed it it shows in extras, it appears to load and then nothing happens.

Hi guys,
If you are having troubles installing fring, I’m really sorry! In a few days our package should be available directly in the maemo Extras repository. In the meantime, you can try setting up the fring repository in your application catalog and installing from there.
Go to Application Manager.
Click on the drop down menu in the top left corner.
Select Tools->Application Catalog
Click “New” button
Name: fring
Web address: http://reg.fring.com/repository/
Distribution: chinook
Components: release
Click “OK”
Click “Close”
Browse installable applications and search for “fring”
Now you should be in business. 🙂

Woops! Just realized something… I only mentioned the chinook distribution.
If you are on an N810 then put Distribution: chinook
If you are on an N800 then it should be Distribution: bora
