Yes fellow Nokia Addict’s as of 10 minutes ago we have the NEW v21.0.025 Firmware. After some technical jiggery-pokery the NSU gave me this :
Now the firmware is on my phone and I’m having a damned good look around to try and build an unofficial changelog. First impressions are not bad at all, things that I’ve noticed thus far :-
1. Quicker booting up – It seems to let you ‘take control’ a lot quicker than before.
2. As mentioned before you can make the menu button ‘breathe’ when the phone is in standby. It will flash twice if there is a missed call, message or email.
3. Music Player is showing BIG cover art – something that annoyed me in V20 was the fact the cover art was shrunk.
4. No longer switches predictive text off after you’ve used the Full Screen QWERTY keyboard and gone back to the regular keypad.
5. ‘Applications’ has been renamed ‘Apps’ – ‘Music Player’ is now ‘Music plyr.’ (These could be due to it using HK firmware?!)
6. Still no Widgety goodness on the home screen – it’s as it was in V20.
7. Web Browser isn’t working!!! I will try doing a hard reset I think.
8. Camera wise, there doesn’t seem to be any image improvements IMO – but it seems to work a little bit quicker.
9. Not had chance to test sound through a headset yet – I have personally had issues in V20 with a Stereo Bluetooth Headset so will be interested to check this out.
10. I think the handwriting recognition is improved – I’ve not used this much, but it seems better.
11. During text entry pressing ‘*’ key brings up a fullscreen selection of characters.
Yep – the web browser WAS broken – a hard reset (undoing all of the UDP) – fixed it though.
I must say the phone is noticeably ‘snappier’, the Theme Effects seem quicker, as does the screen rotate. I’ll post screen grabs later.
Any questions and stuff you want me to test out then please comment.
The light on the manu button appears when you have an unanswered call or an unread message since the first firmware. Why would one want to see it blink and not know from a distance that he really has an unanswered call ?
LOL – Fair point – it’s something that Nokia like making their phones do – the N96 does it.
– what about Camera any improvements…!!??
– Any changes to the sound quality…
The white breathing button is nothing new. I have it working on mine.
The one thing I want to know, does pressing 1 on the dialer ring the voice mail number stored on the phone (because mine doesn’t work at the moment).
How do the general public with Nokia 5800XM phones get this upgrade?
-In the older firmware the ‘breathing button’ only happened when a new message or missed call was there – now you can make it do regardless.
-Button 1 calls voicemail – although i’m certain v20 did
-You can get it yourself by changing your product code and upgrading with NSU. You’ll find details on how to do this if you Google.
How about sharing the way you got the latest firmware? What is the point you telling us about the new features and none of us being able to try it out?
And what i’ve done has invalidated my warranty, you can of course do it yourself too. But i’m sure it’ll out across all the other product codes by the end of the week.
You can change your product code with instructions I posted as a comment on my last 5800XM Update HERE
The menu button will flash ONLY twice??? .. DAMN nokia, why cant you make it blink non stop till i see the missed call/message…
test the gallery please.. has it become any better? and the music player.. currently i’ve like added a song for the umptheeth time to my playlist but it simple wont appear in that list.. There were rumours that the homescreen would change a bit.. is it so?
For indian users: it has not arrived.. Period
It flashes twice every 10 seconds or so for a predetermined time (1h, 2h etc) so it is pretty noticable.
Gallery seems fine, as does adding and removing tracks in the Music Player (are you doing a refresh btw?!)
Home screen is still crap – but as ‘Engineer’ says above stuff WILL be changing on v30 – hopefully he means the homescreen!
I’ve had some problems with my phone. Frequently, when i receive calls, the number shows on the screen for ~1 second, not long enough for the phone to actually ring, then the screen flashes and the phone does a “soft-reboot” or something (i can see the nokia logo, then the home screen loads just like after a reboot.) And there are no indication of missed call or anything, so if I wasn’t paying attention, I don’t know that i actually had a missed call, or who it was that called… Really really annoying 😦 Anyone else heard about this problem and can give me some advice?
Cheers,
Aleksander
What firmware are you running?!?!
K
I am experiencing the same problem as Aleksander . Any body help us. Its quite scary!! ↲
And i have the same firmware v20 and get it upgraded by nokia care. What should we do. Help.
I have V20.0.012.
yeah i’ve refreshed it, no use .. refreshes forever…
I seriously hope nokia has removed the existing v20 bugs and not added more…
Does anyone know if it’s hit UK / Ireland yet?
does it matter to which product code you change yours?
does it matter if it’s euro red, balkan red, euro 2 red?

Try opening flash games… Is it possible to disable the D-pad and play in fullscreen? it was possible in the v11 firmware, but not in the v20…
PLEASE ANSWER! saul_patrick@hotmail.com
I’m sorry, I would like to know if the new version of firmware (21.0.25) solve the display’s bug (random change colors).
Thanks!
did they solve that famous issue while storing the mailbox number ?
thanks
mauro
after update to v20 some of us has a cscreen color problem when the phone is locked and unlocked again… what about v21 ? is there’s a solution for this problem?
Hi,
I have 21.0.25 and I have seen the screen change colours, but perhaps not as often as with v20. I think I’ve only seen it a couple of times over the past week. So, it appears this issue is not fixed.
I updated to and I can´t connect to Wirelles lan, what should i do?
Hi, I’ve updated to ver21 by changing the prod code using JAF, after the update and browsed my phone. I noticed that my WLAN connection has disappeared, can someone help me with this?
[…] is a quick changelog the Nokiaaddict guys found in this […]
Just updated to v21 haven’t tested much yet but the rotation is way faster compared to v20.
While texting you can have alphanumeric keypad in both landscape and potrait mode. (I don’t know if this was updated in v20 or v21)
The issue with the text message icon that remained closed for read messages has been resolved.
The issue with the voicemail number not being stored has been resolved.
Updated via OTA (India)
Just updating mine now OTA mines EURO1 product code so i suspect its been made available worldwide
v21… and still no contacts birthdays that show up in the calendar, neither a choice asking which number to dial using one of the four presets on the home screen ! Just two things that annoy me and show that Nokia still has a lot of work to do.
The voicemail option now saves your mailbox number which wasnt workin on v20. V21 this is now fixed. Also the camera now has sequence shot if you click on the four lines to select between single or sequence. i believe this cam function is new.
ok i’ve updated to v21 from v20 and in the previous version i could watch as well as download programs on the bbc iplayer now i can watch only no download option which is really anoying as i used to download a lot
It seems better. But i want to see a widget interface on the home screen like so many other phones 😦
i’m currently using the phone to post this now. I’m using the v22 april firmware which i updated it on the fly. No issues so far. The best thing that i noticed is this s60 browser which does not lag at java script anymore. Loading pages on this browser seems a bit more snappier as it used to be sluggish when it comes to loading huge desktop encoded pages.
There is so much wrong with the software on the 5800, I don’t know where to start. Originally I gave this phone 5/5 stars cuz it was so awesome. But now I give it between 2.5-3/5 stars, just because the software is such beta quality.
1. upgrading to v21 lost all my messages and email account settings, both university and gmail.
2. playing music now makes the phone menu switching slow way down.
3. fails to show the accuweather widget icon, which “usually” displayed in v20.
4. software updater from device settings doens’t work at all. No server profiles.
5. ‘shuffle’ setting blows; plays the same song multiple times in the same hour
6. menu navigation in music player with lots of songs is extremely hard
7. the new nokia email installed a ‘start up app’ that tries to setup the email EVERY TIME the phone boots. This is freaking annoying. uninstalling didn’t fix.
8. Phone burns off power in a call at an absurd rate.
9. Call image sometimes is small and sometimes big.
Just lots of nonsensical usability things
and I’m not sure if the problem where my email box runs out of memory “memory full” has been fixed yet. That one was super lame too.
