Opera have just release a Version 5 BETA of their Opera Mini web browser which simple ROCKS.

Cool new User interfcae
Multiple Tabs
Multiple Tabs
Multiple Tabs
Cool new start page Speed Dial
Copy & Paste Text from/to pages
Find in Page

Can’t see Opera Link anywhere, but this is an initial beta and I fully expect it to come in future updates or in the final release.

All that aside did I say it had Multiple Tabs now? Wonder how many I can open at once? 😀

I LOVE OPERA MINI

I just wish it had bookmark import or Opera Link, I don’t much fancy setting up all my bookmarks again 😦

I think (and hope) they will add the sync with the final version. It’s so useful to keep bookmarks and passwords syncronized among different phones!

opera mini 4 wasn’t very good on touch but amazing with physical keys. Mostly because of the quick shortcuts. Has this been improved in 5?

Opera Mini 5 Beta is worse s60 app I have ever used. Too much candy in the UI and difficult to use if compared to previous version of opera mini.

Designer of the UI hasn’t been thinking about the user at all. Feck the shit.

it’s nice except i can’t figure out how to enter symbols using my e71 when entering my user name. with v4 the text entry defaulted to nolia’s text entry screen or when entering a url a little note appeared for entering symbols. maybe i’m missing something but if not, hopefully it’ll get fixed.

Within Opera Min 5 go into Settings/Advanced and turn Inline Editing = OFF

Now when you goto enter a URL you will need to select EDIT and you have the normal phone message windoww and you will be able to use the full E71 keyboard and also the phone copy & paste

That’s what I always had to do with my E61, as also with previous versions the extended keyboard is not recognized.

To use copy & paste select 1 on the keyboard or hold the OK key in the D-pad down for a second and you’ll see ‘Select Text’

any of you use this on a T9? On my N82, predictive text does not work, that’s pretty much an instant fail. Interface is nice, and I like the Google Chrome-esque start page. It’s candy on a phone with keys but makes sense for touch.

@kevin neely yeah it works with T9 but only partially. As someone said you have to switch off the inline editing thing. Now you are going to be able to fill in the forms and text boxes but T9 is not supported for entering URL’s and that is a fail in my book too. What I miss in this beta is the semi transparent shortcut help panel that pops up a couple secs after * or # is pressed. That was really helpful if you forget your shortcuts.

Thanks for the tip! i was able to turn off inline editing which allows predictive once again. Inline + predictive would be much better.

I ould enter a url by clicking on the box, and then saying ‘edit’. Since inline is off, it brings up an editor window.

I really hope this is an early beta and not a feature complete beta. At this time, I can’t agree with Gerrymoth and say that it rocks, though it is promising.

Hi,
I see that Opera mini dose a great job…. But what do you think of the fact the all your data has to go through their servers before coming to your phone.

I don’t think that they will sell your data. But they could definitely be selling the statistics to interested parties.

And if by chance an employee attached to the servers want’s to make a buck, he or she could always sell your data.

What is your opinion?

All “What ifs”, if a web browser manufacture didn’t ensure there browsers were safe they wouldn’t be in business for long. As for the statistics????

They are valid concerns, but for most data, it probably does not matter. Be aware that your data is proxied and encryption basically means nothing and use a non-proxied web client when it makes sense.

For most applications, Opera mini and its caching proxy will be safe (enough).

Doesn’t fully support T9 and crashed when I tried to submit the form.

Not great.
