The N900 finally gets the full Tunewiki experience instead of the rather dull Tunewiki Widget it shipped with, we now have the new Tunewiki SMP for Maemo (SMP = Social Media Player)

With the new Tunewiki SMP you have a music player, youtube music player, Shoutcast Radio Player, lyrics for all music and search for Tunewiki users near you.

I’ve had a quick play with everything and it seems to work very well on my N900.

Bye Bye Symbian (on the N-Series at least)

18 11 2009

So last night was the ‘N900 Meet Up’ hosted by Nokia and WOM World. where the great and geek of the Nokia and Maemo world came together to have a play with the N900. We had a quick product demo, and then two developers talk about developing on the N900 / Maemo platform.

The most interesting thing to transpire last night was than Ben Smith (TRMP) and I were told by Tanja Sauvola from the Maemo Marketing Team that Symbian would no longer be the operating system used on Nokia N Series phones by 2012. It would be replaced by Maemo. Symbian would (for now) still have a place in the X and E series phones, but the high end N Series would be powered by Maemo. We were also told the the N900 was aimed at developers / enthusiasts rather than ‘the man in the street’. After the platform has matured slightly (and I would guess there are more apps!) it would become more ‘mainstream’. I suppose this is similar to the way S60 has evolved. Also interesting to hear is than the Ovi Store for Maemo would be running after a software update in ‘a few weeks’.

I must say the N900 really is an impressive phone, I’m genuinely excited by it, which is something Nokia have failed to really do to me recently. Big thanks to Nokia and WOM World for inviting us to the event last night. Also thanks to Ben Smith for squeezing the info out of Tanja – his report on it is here . Gerry is getting his hands on his own N900 soon, and hopefully i’ll blag one of my own too 🙂

Waiting on the N900

29 10 2009

phone-imgI just couldn’t wait and have pre-ordered a N900 for my own personal use.

I just know its going to be the power device I want. I know some apps aren’t available for it yet or some apps aren’t as good as my existing ones on my E71 or 5800XM (No Gravity yet on N900), but the buzz and community involvement in Maemo at the moment is just astonishing and I can only see it getting better and better week after week.

Now all I have to do is wait and see if my device is delivered on the 16th November as promised my MobilePhonesDirect.co.uk

In the last week I’ve heard the N900 is coming on the 16th, the 9th and today heard the 2nd. I can’t wait to get my N900 and pimp it gerrymoth style 🙂

The MPD DEAL:
I’m getting the N900 on 12 months contract with T-Mobile UK
500mins, 375 text and Unlimited Mobile Web (Fair usage 1GB)
£40.99 one off payment, then 12 months of £39.15

UPDATE: gPodder v0.12

21 07 2008

gPodder has been updated to v0.12, you can view the full Changelog HERE

I use gPodder for all my Audio & Video podcasts on the N800. Also remember you can add the nokiAAddict Podcast Directory into it, which will allow you to easily subscribe to BBC Radio, Sky News and selected mobile phone podcasts.

NOTE: gPodder should be available from the maemo extras repository now, so if you have the old ‘gPodder Maemo Repository’ on your N800, you can remove it now.

TomBoy for N8x0

21 05 2008

Yes, Tomboy has been ported to Maemo.

I use TomBoy on my Ubuntu Laptop all the time and was very interested to see how it ported to maemo for use on my N800 and I have to say I like it.

For all those not in the know, TomBoy is a simple note taking application.
