More N900 Firmware Updates – PR1.1 Released

14 01 2010

Two Firmware updates for the N900 in one week, oh Nokia you will be spoiling us 😀 The N900 gets a major firmware update to v2.2009.51-1 and will be available via OTA, NSU and Maemo Flasher as of 7am on 14/01/2010 in Finland and distributed worldwide throughout the day.

Changelog for the firmware update is here
http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_5/PR1.1

I wish all Nokia firmware updates followed the Maemo guys method and published exactly what the changes consist of?

The new firmware brings changes from Nokia and from Bug Reports the Maemo Community have raised.

I’ve heard people saying if you’re having problems installing the new firmware to disable Maemo Extra-devel repository and also remove some of the devel apps? Can’t confirm this as I haven’t updated myself, stuck on a 2G T-Mobile area at the moment 😦

New FW Easter Egg: In web browser press CTRL-SHIFT-0 you’ll like it 🙂

UPDATE 15/01/10: I refreshed the Application Manager on my N900 and it had the new FW Update, so when I got home I tried to update OTA, but the update stated I had to update via NSU, so I plugged my UK N900 into my laptop and fired up NSU which told me I had the latest FW already v44?

I checked to see if there was a firmware image available to download and flash to my N900 and noticed they didn’t have a UK firmware image, that’s why NSU didn’t see it. Instead I flashed my N900 using the Global Firmware Image.

Instructions for flashing the N900 can be found HERE

The N900 OVI Store is now Open

12 01 2010

The N900 got an Over The Air (OTA) Firmware upgrade yesterday to Version 1.2009.44-1.203.4 and as part of that upgrade it allowed the OVI Store to be opened.

Welcome to the Store, go grab Angry Birds and Solitaire touch games, themes and a few applications.

The stores not got a great selection at the moment, but hopefully it will get some new items in it every day 🙂

The firmware update to the N900 also brings a new look Application Manager and improves the performance of the device significantly.

PS: I updated MyMenu (From Qole Repos) on my device yesterday morning and it screwed my device up, so had to reflash my devices firmware again. This was easily done using Maemo Flasher v3.5, my Xubuntu laptop and the N900 connected via the USB cable. I noticed after I’d reflashed all my data (calender, contacts, settings) was still there, but I had to reinstall all applications again.

FIRMWARE UPDATE: Nokia 5530XM v11.0.054

30 09 2009

Kip Hakes gave a shoutout last night on the nokiAAddict twitter account there was new firmware v11.0.054 available for the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic.

I couldn’t see this firmware myself FOTA on the 5530XM I have, but it was available via the PC and NSU to update. So after some download problems which might have been the hotels broadband connection I eventually updated my 5530XM.

Noticed improvements in the speed of the homescreen contact icons scrolling, but apart from that not noticing any significant changes. If I find a changelog for this firmware update I’ll add to this post.

HTML Now Added To Nokia Messaging S60v5

7 09 2009

Nokia quietly updated their Messaging app over the weekend for S60v3 and S60v5, but its the S60v5 that finally gets HTML mail and I must say it works great on the loaner Nokia 5530XM I have at the moment.

Not tried on my Nokia 5800XM yet as its into its 4th week of repair at Carphone Warehouse, that’s a new post in the making.

UPDATE: GoogleMaps v3.2.1 and YouTube v2.2.17

20 08 2009

Just updated GoogleMaps and YouTube apps on my E71 and didn’t really notice any difference, no new features, but I’ve been informed the YouTube update actually brings fullscreen video play to the 5800XM and N97.

The Wife has my 5800XM at the moment as her’s is in for repair, so can’t fully verify for you all fullscreen works.

Download the new updates direct from Google at http://m.google.com or download direct from the nokiAAddict Downloads page.

What’s New on 5800XM FW v30.0.011

27 07 2009

by gerrymoth

I’ve just installed the new v30.0.011 firmware onto my O2 5800XM RED and have been trying to find what’s new, initially I couldn’t find anything and suddenly I realised the device is more responsive and seems to handle RAM alot better, so much so that I can have any number of applications open and I’m not getting low memory messages or the web browser slowing to a grounding halt with Gravity, Music Player and Profimail running in the background.

I’ve also been playing youtube videos via the web browser and they seem to load and run perfectly.

Nokia Messaging email notification is now supposedly showing in the homescreen of the 5800XM, but I couldn’t see it, but have been informed it will only appear if you do a hard reset which is total PANTS! I’m not about to hard reset and have to reinstall all my apps again for Nokia Messaging when I use Profimail on my 5800XM.

Would have liked some homescreen improvements, but a faster, more stable, better performing 5800XM will do for me. THANKS NOKIA 🙂

UPDATE: Google Maps v3.2.0 and YouTube v2.2.9 (S60v3 and S60v5)

22 07 2009

Google have update both Google Maps v3.2.0 and the YouTube v2.2.9 applications for Nokia S60 devices.

Google Maps brings Layers, which I’m still trying to workout what that really means.

YouTube brings compatibility for S60 5th Edition devices like 5800XM and N97.

Download from your Nokia Web Browser at http://m.google.com

Alternatively goto my downloads page and checkout the N97 and 5800XM direct downloads.
